The buzz around Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT is hard to ignore these days. It's on everyone's minds, dominating blogs and articles. So, here I am, joining the bandwagon to share my newfound fascination with this transformative technology.
Initially indifferent to AI's impact on my life and work, my curiosity was sparked when I overheard an administrative team discussing ChatGPT. One executive assistant was effortlessly using it to pinpoint the best restaurants in downtown New York for her boss. In mere minutes, the tool generated a list that would have taken days to compile manually. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try, and the experience was surprisingly enjoyable.
As I delved into the world of AI, I began to recognize its potential benefits, particularly in my profession of writing and teaching. A turning point was attending a training session for administrative professionals hosted by Eric Curts, a Technology Integration Specialist and Google Certified Trainer and Innovator. Eric encouraged us to view AI as a helpful assistant, capable of tackling time-consuming tasks such as research, data management, email composition, content creation, and presentation visuals.
The revelation that AI could save up to 80% of our time by automating various tasks was eye-opening. During Eric's session, he showcased several remarkable AI tools covering speech, music, images, language, text, audio/video, and education. The capabilities of these tools, some of which can be explored on Eric's website (https://www.controlaltachieve.com), left me amazed.
Since that enlightening session, I've immersed myself in the AI realm, voraciously consuming information related to this burgeoning technology. Despite its current infancy, AI holds the potential to revolutionize the administrative profession. While the full extent of its application is still uncertain, it undeniably evolves into something extraordinary.
Acknowledging the valid concerns surrounding AI, such as data privacy and misinformation, is crucial. However, the continuous improvement of AI technology and the implementation of safeguards address these concerns and pave the way for a more secure future.
Although I'm far from an AI expert and may never become one, I believe that educating myself on available tools and experimenting with them will enhance my chances of success. Increased engagement in the AI realm can diminish our fear of being replaced, empowering us even more in our administrative roles.
As I set my goals for 2024, embracing the AI revolution will undoubtedly be a significant part of it. How about you?
