I was having dinner with a good friend recently and we were sharing some great books we had read. I love to read and get great tips on good books. She shared with me a book she said I should read entitled “The Magic” written by Rhonda Byrne. Given my love for inspirational and motivational books, she indicated that this would be a perfect book for me. I ordered it right there at the dinner table that night (Amazon.com is my best friend) and had it in my hands the very next day.
That book changed my outlook on life. It is really about the “Magic” of being grateful and using gratitude in our lives every day. It is a 28-day exercise on using gratitude from the moment you go to bed in the evenings, to when you wake up in the mornings. When I lay my head on the pillow to sleep at night I focus on the best thing that happened to me in the day and say, “Thank You.” When I wake up to a new day I take a moment to say “Thank You” for the day.
To be grateful for the little things like the light turning green when I am running late for an appointment or the penny I found on the street or the door that was opened for me when my hands were full.
In addition, now, every morning I pull out my “Magic” Journal and write down at least 10 things for which I am grateful. As we head into November and feel the holidays are soon to be upon us the TV advertisements will begin to tell us that we have shopping to do. Grocery stores will start putting the cranberry sauce, green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and French-fried onion cans at the front of the aisles (to make my favorite holiday casserole), and…. is that a holiday song I hear playing in the background?
I can tell you as much as I love the holidays, they come in the blink of an eye, and I am usually never ready for it. What I AM ready for now is gratitude! To be grateful for all that I have been given in my life and this year.

Let us be grateful for all the things we DO have as we sit around our dining room tables this coming Thanksgiving. I will be forever grateful to my friend who introduced me to this book.
