The Resilient Dance of the Palm Tree

My husband and I recently enjoyed a vacation on Maui, my favorite Hawaiian island. Despite the unsettled weather, a tropical storm presented an awe-inspiring spectacle. From our hotel balcony, I witnessed palm trees swaying and twisting in a dance-like movement, resembling a lively Zumba session.

Even after the storm passed and the sun emerged, the palm trees continued their gentle sway, bidding farewell to the retreating tempest. Fun fact: did you know there are over 2,600 species of palm trees, symbolizing victory, peace, and tropical vacations? They've graced our planet for over eighty million years, showcasing remarkable adaptability.

My mentor, Joan Burge, CEO of Office Dynamics, often refers to the palm tree as a symbol of "resilience." This resonated with me as I observed them weathering the storm from my hotel room.

Reflecting on the past year, I've encountered both unforgettable and challenging experiences. During tough times, I admit, I wasn't always as resilient as the palm tree. There was a time I retreated under my covers, overwhelmed like a hurricane or tsunami had hit.

As a coach and trainer, promoting positivity is my forte. Thankfully, I had the tools to pull myself out of depression and rediscover joy. It took a few days, but with the right mindset and resources, I overcame my struggles.

Life's turbulent moments may make us want to retreat, allowing emotions to take control. We may find ourselves asking, "Why me? Why now? Why this?" That's why I've decided to keep a picture of the palm tree on my desk—a reminder of resilience. When challenges arise, I'll strive to face the storm, swaying like a palm tree, and performing the Zumba dance. 🌴💃
