Throughout my 30+ years as an executive assistant, I've had the privilege of training administrative professionals in best practices both within my company and beyond.
My journey began in 1995 when I was asked to introduce our company's culture to new administrative hires each quarter through a mini workshop. Facing an audience of about 20 people terrified me—I had never presented to a group before.
My HR representative wouldn't take no for an answer. She insisted I knew our culture better than anyone, having witnessed the company grow from 560 to over 10,000 employees. She suggested finding a coach to help overcome my fear of speaking. That coach was Jeff Patnaude, whose guidance taught me to harness my creativity and make my classes both enjoyable and informative. His mentorship opened the door to discovering my passion for teaching and training.
I didn't realize then that my role as an executive assistant was evolving. While developing into my own "Office Rockstar," I found myself increasingly interacting with administrative professionals across all organizational levels. They sought my guidance on overcoming challenges and reimagining their roles.
As our organization expanded, so did the administrative team. I transitioned to teaching, coaching, and mentoring full-time—work I loved, especially when witnessing the positive impact on individuals and the company. I was building my own culture of Office Rockstars!
After retiring from corporate life, I knew I wanted to continue this work. I became an entrepreneur and launched my own training and coaching business with the mission of developing a new generation of Office Rockstars.
In early 2019, my former executive, John Chambers, suggested I write a book about the strategies and techniques I'd used to help build the company and create mutual success. Following his advice, I organized my ideas and published "The Office Rockstar Playbook" with a clear goal—to inspire, guide, and motivate administrative professionals worldwide.
Over time, I realized I was more than just a teacher and coach. I had become a mentor—someone my clients could depend on for career advice and guidance.
I now understand what I truly am: a Mentivator! Someone who mentors, motivates, and coaches others to unlock their "Office Rockstar" greatness.
